September 20 is Publication Day…

…for The Forgetting Machine, the second book of the Flinkwater Chronicles.

Ginger Crump has a problem. Two of them, actually.

First, the residents of Flinkwater, Iowa, are becoming forgetful. Her dad seems to have forgotten that they have a cat, and Ginger’s unwitting fiancĂ© Billy seems to have forgotten Ginger. This is not simple absentmindedness—it’s a nefarious plot.

Second, an anonymous stealth censor has removed all the talking animals from her e-book version of Charlotte’s Web. It turns out that the e-book version has been globally hacked, and in near-future Flinkwater, paper books are hard to find.

Ginger, being Ginger, swings into action—just in time for Banned Books Week (September 25-October 1).

I’ll be doing a couple of events around the Twin Cities:

October 1 I’ll be at Metropolitan State University for a Banned Books event. Phyllis Root and Marion Dane Bauer will be there too. We’ll be signing books and talking about censorship. The event is from 3-5 p.m.

Saturday, October 22 at 1:00 p.m I’ll be at Wild Rumpus signing copies of The Forgetting Machine and the new paperback edition of The Flinkwater Factor. Also on hand will be copies of Sky Blue Watera new collection of YA and middle-grade short stories by Minnesota writers, including me.

Take a break from the leaf-raking and come if you can!
